Rochdale Borough Council is seeking to appoint additional 3 Casual Coroner’s Court Ushers.

You will join a small pool of existing Court Ushers whose role is to support both the Coroner and the Court during Coronial hearings.

You will be a highly motivated and disciplined individual capable of working in a high pressured environment with continually changing priorities.  You will be dealing with a range of medical professionals, police, press and bereaved families who attend the court both in person and remotely.

As part of your role you will be required to offer guidance, advice and support to those attending throughout the hearing and therefore your communication skills must be excellent, appropriate and professional at all times.

You will be responsible for operating the audio visual equipment in the court to allow witnesses to attend remotely and to ensure that all hearings are recorded.   Training will be provided but an understanding of IT systems in general is essential.

You will work as part of a team of ushers on a rota basis, usually attending court on average for 2 days a week although this can vary depending on court commitments.  Court hours are between 8:30 and 4:30 but hearings can sometimes carry on after this time and therefore the successful candidates will need to be flexible in their approach.

You will be required to work on your own initiative, to be adaptable and have the ability to problem solve whilst providing continued support to both the Coroner and the Court.

In accordance with Section 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 this post requires the ability to converse at ease with the members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English.
