Grade: MPR/UPR + Special Needs Allowance*

Working Hours:  Full time Teacher’s post

Contract Type:  Permanent

Closing Date: 29th September 2019

Interview Date: 10th October 2019

The Service for Children & Young People with Additional Needs Service (CYPANS) is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, skilled and versatile Specialist Teacher, willing and able to work with settings across the Borough to support children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (TASC).

Based at Number One Riverside, as part of Rochdale Additional Needs Service (RANS) Team for Autism and Social Communication (TASC), you will work in a multi-disciplinary environment with colleagues within CYPANS as well as professionals from Health and Social Care.  You must be passionate about and committed to the inclusion of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, and be able to inspire others to share your high expectations of and aspirations for our pupils.

The successful candidate will work peripatetically across the Borough, ensuring that staff (and parents where appropriate) are able to meet the needs of a caseload of children and young people with ASC.  This will include assessing needs using a range of techniques, providing verbal and written advice including reports to fulfil statutory processes, developing and delivering highly differentiated and adapted programmes of work often using specialist resources and techniques, supporting and enabling school staff, delivering training sessions to individuals, small and large groups and undertaking a wide variety of ICT tasks including the use of MicroSoft Office to support the day to day work of the team.

A full job description and person specification for the role is available below. It should be noted that this is a physically demanding role and the successful candidate will need to be able to work in a variety of contexts, transport themselves and equipment around the Borough and (once trained) be able to use a variety of assistive technologies with the young people they are supporting, for example – ICT such as laptops & iPads.

Most importantly the successful candidate needs to:

- have recent and extensive experience and knowledge in relation to working with children and young people with ASC.

- be willing and able to learn new skills quickly

- be calm, approachable and flexible

- be able to work on their own initiative but ask for help when they need it

- be a team player and have a good sense of humour

The successful applicant will have a wealth of opportunities to develop their skills and expertise ‘on the job’ through mentoring and support from experienced staff, and access to training and development activities.

If you would like to discuss the role further, please contact Julie Dalton on 01706 926400 during term time.
