We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced practitioner to join our Children with Disabilities Team as Advanced Practitioner.
The Children with Disabilities Team sits within the Early Help and Schools Department which means we have significant opportunities to work alongside our SEN, RAN, Ed Psych and HI and VI Team colleagues. Multi disciplinary working, organisational skills and the capacity to manage complex cases are a priority. Previous significant experience of working with disabled children is essential but this does not need to have been as a social worker, it could for example be experience of working within a residential or health setting, within the private sector or for a charity.
The Children with Disabilities Team manages cases where disability is the overriding factor to consider with regards to outcomes and impact for the child. Our main function is to assess and offer appropriate short break services to children who have a diagnosed disability and/or complex health needs and their families. However some of these children are also in need of safeguarding and in these cases we also manage children in the child protection process including Child Protection Conference, Public Law Outline and Proceedings.
A number of the children that are held by our team are Cared for Children, both on Full Care Orders and Section 20 agreements.
As an Advanced Practitioner you will additionally:-
- Have a manageable caseload of complex cases.
- Support the team by offering oversight on cases, focusing on particularly complex problems which are specific to children with disabilities or those with complex health needs.
- Have a good understanding of child protection and safeguarding issues for Children with Disabilities and be able to support the team with this.
- Support and mentor team members including ASYE.
- To attend training and development opportunities to advance your own practice and to share with the team.
- To develop areas of specific expertise with regards to children with disabilities
