Assistant Planning Officer
Planning

Job ref: RO31065
Location: Number One Riverside, Smith Street, Rochdale
Salary: £21,589 to £23,836
Grade: 5
Working Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract Type: Permanent
Closing Date: 1st September 2019
Interview Date: 9th & 10th September 2019

Rochdale forms part of the Greater Manchester city region and is experiencing significant economic growth and investment. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to work within Greater Manchester as we embark on our new devolution and governance arrangements, with planning at the heart of this agenda.

We have an ambitious and up to date development plan and considerable space to grow. Working with our local & GM partners and the private sector we are delivering on our ambitions to regenerate our Town Centres and neighbourhoods and exploit our connectivity, unique heritage and location at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse.

An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Planning Officer to join the Development Management team. This is an ideal opportunity for a graduate, or someone at the start of their planning career, to gain valuable experience working in a busy planning service.

You will primarily have a caseload of development applications, preliminary enquiries and appeals but may also be expected to contribute to the development and implementation of wider physical development and regeneration projects across the Planning service. You will be expected to organise your workload efficiently and effectively to meet deadlines and be able to write clear and concise reports and recommendations for planning applications to be determined under delegated powers or by the Council’s Planning & Licensing committee.

You will have, or be working towards, a recognised planning qualification and have an awareness of development management issues.

Experience of working with ICT systems is essential and you will ideally have some experience of working in a planning office. As a good team player you will have drive and enthusiasm along with a positive attitude to dealing with applicants, Members and the general public and an understanding of the challenges facing a development management service. In return you can expect to gain excellent planning experience whilst working in an attractive office environment.

If you are up for the challenge and can contribute positively to the Council’s growth agenda, we would like to hear from you.

For an informal discussion please contact Daniela Ripa (Development Manager) on 01706 924316 or Alison Truman (Assistant Development Manager) on 01706 924334.
