Rochdale Borough, a part of the Greater Manchester city region, is experiencing significant growth and investment. We are delivering ambitious plans to regenerate our town centres and neighbourhoods and to exploit our connectivity, unique heritage and location. We are preparing an Allocations Development Plan Document and involved in city regional working to prepare the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework. We have an ambitious strategy for delivering a high quality environment, economy and communities in our Borough providing a great place to visit, live and work in.

The Planning and Development Service is at the heart of the Council’s agenda for growth and regeneration. The Strategic Planning Team is a multi-disciplinary team managing the Council’s Local Plan preparation and plays a key role in the preparation of the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework. The team has a varied workload which also includes flood risk management planning, green infrastructure, rural regeneration, biodiversity and sustainable development working with organisations and partnerships locally, in the city region and beyond. The team works closely with the Development Management Team to promote and deliver high quality development and sustainable management of the environment. This includes our trees and woodlands which are an important part of our current and future urban and rural landscape providing a range of key environmental services.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a progressive and professional team with a track record of successful delivery and innovative partnership working. The successful candidate will have a recognised qualification in forestry, town planning or an equivalent qualification in landscape design or land management and possess an up to date knowledge of town planning and legislation, policy and procedure relating to trees and woodland. You will have experience of providing advice and professional support to ensure the appropriate protection, promotion and enhancement of trees and woodland in development proposals, regeneration projects and land use and management plans and strategies. You should be familiar with the use of Geographical Information Systems, ideally QGIS or MapInfo. You will have a positive approach to resolving issues with minimal supervision and working with Councillors, communities and a range of partners to deliver an efficient, customer focussed and high quality planning service. You will be an enthusiastic team player.

The successful candidate can expect to receive excellent experience working within a busy and dynamic local authority planning department.
